Jimdo Review

After extensive review and consideration, in 2014, Jimdo was chosen to be our Chapter's website builder. Periodically, a chapter will seek recommendations and each time, after comparing Jimdo to Wix and Weebly (which remain in the top as well), I am fully satisfied with our decision to use Jimdo.

I feel Jimdo is an exceptional value for what they offer. Their current Jimdo Creator Pro package with a domain that is renewable is about $132 per year ($11 per month) at the time of this entry in 2022.

They offer "responsive templates" that adapt to any size screen, whether computer, tablet or phone and the templates can be further customized.

You can tryout and explore different templates at any time to give your site a different look. You can customize the parts of your template to specific colors and fonts.

You can hand code templates, numerous widgets and the embedding of calendars and interactive maps.

You can password protect a folder with subpages for a Member Area.

Jimdo has an easy to understand Analytics report. It also lets you incorporate SEO and Google Analytics.

The site can be created and edited in any browser on both Macs and PCs. Site text and photos can be edited using their app on a mobile device.

You can put a PayPal button on any page to sell Event tickets.

PDF, Word, Excel, Numbers, Pages, CSV and other common file types are easily hosted and can be downloaded by our members and site visitors.

I find their periodic newsletters contain extremely useful information on website management.

Support is offered through online files and by email written by a human being that has resolved every issue and question I had. They are based in Germany. Their response time 1-2 days. For me, if I email them at night, I receive a response the following morning except on weekends. In 9 years, the site was down only once and then for only several minutes back in 2015.

Jimdo has recently rolled out a new product called Dolphin which can be entirely created and managed on a mobile device. Unfortunately, it does not offer the features that ASG chapters usually need.

New Jimdo account holders are presented only with Dolphin but a work-around does exist:

1. Follow the wizard to create a website

2. When you get to the ''What kind of website do you want to create...'' screen, you will need to choose the Blog option

3. Follow the steps until you get to a split screen where you should see two options (I've included a screenshot below)

4. At this point be sure to choose the "Build your own website from the ground up'' option and that will give you the Creator product.

If you would like to give Jimdo a try, please contact me. I have created an account where you can learn and test out the Creator Pro features.
